Cricket

Friday 21st June: Rush NS v. Milverton
 
Rush NS cricket team produced an outstanding performance to qualify for the Leprechaun Cup cricket final. It was an exciting match from start to finish. The boys and girls showcased some wonderful batting, bowling, fielding and even one handed catches to take the win. Well done all!
Monday 24th June: Rush NS v. St. Brigids Castleknock
 
A second place finish for Rush NS in the Leprechaun p final. The boys and girls fought to the end of another nail biting match. What a wonderful achievement for all the boys and girls. A huge congratulations to all team members on their superb performances this season. 
 
 

Grandparents Day 2024

On Tuesday 18th of June we had a very special afternoon in our school.  Grandparents from every class came in to visit.  They first gathered in the hall for some entertainment and refreshments and then made their way over to the classrooms of their grandchildren.   While in the classrooms they shared stories, songs and games with the children.  A fabulous afternoon was had by all.  Below is a snapshot of the visit in Room 1 and as you can see the children are enthralled 🙂

Microsoft Dreamspace Ambassador Program

The Dreamspace ambassadors participated in the Microsoft Dreamspace Ambassador program. They joined six virtual online training sessions and then taught 4th, 5th, and 6th students how to code with Microbit and Make Code Arcade. Finally, the Dreamspace team received the platinum award at the graduation ceremony in Leopardstown. Well done to the ten 5th class students who did a fantastic job this year! 

Rush NS Cricket Team played their first cricket match on Friday 17th May in Rush Cricket Club. Their impressive teamwork and performance secured a brilliant win. A great day was had by all!

Heritage In Schools Visit to 4th Class

The boys and girls in 4th class have been learning all about The Vikings.  As part of the Heritage in Schools initiative archaeologist Francesca Callaghan came to teach us more about the Vikings.  She showed us Viking artefacts which have been discovered in the Dublin area.  We had lots of  fun learning about our Viking roots, examining a range of artefacts and even playing some Viking games- ball in a cup was a big hit!  As you will see from the photos below,  we had lots of fun and learned lots.  Thank you Francesca!

 

Art Workshops with Kajsa Kinsella.

The pupils of 4th Class have been enjoying art workshops with artist Kajsa Kinsella as part of the BLAST, Artist in Residence programme.  Kajsa has a background in using fabric to create beautiful art pieces.  Pupils have learned to make dolls from wool and create wool canvases.  They also loved learning to explore digital art by using canvas.     Check out some of the great work they have produced!

                                                                                                       

 

Creative Schools

Rush National School is currently participating in ‘Creative Schools’, an initiative from The Arts Council of Ireland. Declan Gorman, our Creative Associate, is working with all pupils in our school to develop lots of fun and creative activities for the pupils to enjoy. So far, pupils from 4th-6th have participated in ‘What is Creativity’ drama workshop in order to explore the kinds of creative activities the pupils want to do in Rush N.S.

                                                                                             

 

Music Workshops

All our classes participate in a 6 week music workshop with Karen Barry from The Mobile Music School.  Our 3rd-6th Class pupils have learned to play the ukulele. and our Junior Infants to 2nd Class pupils have participated in a music workshop called ‘Let’s Explore’’.  Fingal County Council have sponsored this initiative as part of their ‘Musician in Residence’ grant.

 

Athletics

Both our Junior and Senior Athletics Teams took part in the final of the Fingal Athletics League today in ALSSA.  A great day was had by all as you will see from the photos below,  Well done to both the athletes and teachers involved, you made Rush National School feel very proud!

Easter Bake Sale

Our Annual Easter Bake Sale was held today in the school hall and was hugely successful thanks to the Parents Association.   You will see from the photos below that there were so many fabulous creations.  The children really enjoyed the treats and there were some great prizes for the super bakers too!

Fyffes Fit Squad Visit

On the 19th of January we were delighted to host the launch of the Fyffes ‘Ireland’s FIttest School 2024’ competition.  All competing schools will battle it out to show their worth as Ireland Fittest School, with the winners walking away with 5,000 Euro worth of sports equipment for their school!

School Carol Service

Our school Carol Service took place on Thursday  the 21st of December in St. Maur’s Church. 

It was a beautiful event and definitely put everyone in the Christmas mood!

Mr. Carberry put together the attached video, capturing the energy and talent on display.

Friendship Week 2023

Friendship week in Rush National school took place from 4th-8th December this year.

The boys and girls had great fun taking part in a variety of Friendship activities-the most enjoyable being the paired work time that took place between the older and younger classes.

The children focused on kindness and the importance of Friendship.

They all took part in a Friendship week competition, with a very high standard of entries.

Infants worked on pictures showing friendship, 1st-3rd class composed Friendship poems, 4th-6th class created friendship posters with a special friendship slogan.

Well done to everyone on their entries and on a very enjoyable week.

Donated jerseys – 1st December 2023

We have been lucky enough in Rush National School to purchase new jerseys for our GAA teams. Rather than allowing our old jerseys to go to waste, we donated them to a charity. It is lovely to see our older jerseys being enjoyed by other children.

STEM week – 28th November 2023

In Rush National School, we celebrated STEM week from 20th to 24th November. We engaged in activities that allowed us to explore and learn in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Garda Band – 7th November 2023

We were lucky enough to welcome the Garda Band to our school today. The band perform in schools, at festivals and sporting events. They taught us about percussion, brass and woodwind instruments and treated us to several performances of well known tunes and melodies.
