Our local library – 27th June 2023
The children in all classes in our school get the opportunity to visit our wonderful Rush Library which is a wealth of resources to both the school and community. Here are some children from 1st class enjoying reading some of the lovely books on offer.

Friendship Games – 26th June 2023
Three of our pupils took part in the Cuman na mBunscol ‘Friendship Games’ in June. They travelled with other girls who were selected from Dublin schools to represent Dublin against Belfast in the Friendship Games Competition. What an honour it was to not only represent Rush National School but also Dublin!! Well done girls.

Camogie Team – 23rd June 2023
6th class room 1 visited Microsoft to learn more about coding, programming, Minecraft Education and making mixed reality videos.

Camogie Team – 22nd June 2023
Well done to the Camogie team who reached the Dublin Cumann na mBunscol semi-final. The girls missed out to the south Dublin team Divine Word of Rathfarnham. Well done girls on a fantastic year of Camogie.

Ukulele sponsored by Fingal County Council – 20th June 2023
We love music in Rush N.S! All the classes enjoy an 8 week music programme with Karen, our music
teacher. Karen’s lessons are partly sponsored by Fingal County Council as part of their ‘Musician in
Residence’ programme. With the help of our professional tutors, students explore the role of the
conductor and investigate the importance of percussion. Students also learn about dynamics,
tempo, mood, the beat and rhythm. dynamics, tempo, mood, the beat and rhythm. Students learn
and perform songs, compose music using set sounds and play along to music. 4th and 5 th Class pupils
learn to play the ukulele.

Soccer Ireland – 16th June 2023
Our girls’ soccer teams recently had the opportunity to visit the UCD campus to see the Republic of Ireland’s women’s national soccer team for an open training session. They watched the girls in action and there was a meet and greet pitch side!

Visit to Golf Road Nurseries – 15th June 2023
2nd class recently visited a local tomato farm. They learned about the stages of growth, the optimum growing environment and even got to taste the produce!

Farm visit – 7th June 2023
Today we had a visit from a mobile farm and some of our pupils had a chance to closely observe these animals. They discussed colours, textures, sounds and smells!

Rush Library – 22nd May 2023
Our infant classes recently learned about Australia. They examined photos of Australia, the boomerang, a map of Australia and even tried their hand at some Aboriginal art! Take a look a the pictures below.

Rush Library – 20th May 2023
Rush library is housed in the old St. Maur’s church building. We are lucky to have such a wonderful resource in our local community. It plays an important role in our learning and we, at Rush National School, can visit our local library every week.

Flight of the Bumblebee – 18th May 2023
Our Senior Infants listened to ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The string instruments create a frenetic buzz, representing the energy of the bumblebee. While the pupils listened to this well-known classical piece, they responded imaginatively to it through drawing. Take a look at some of the drawings below.

Seachtain na Gaeilge – 20th March 2023
Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl ó 13ú – 16ú Márta. Chun an ócáid speisialta seo a cheiliúradh, bhí go leor gníomhaíochtaí againn ar scoil – toraíocht taisce, tráth na gCeist, léitheoireacht roinnte agus drámaíocht.

STEM week – 10th March 2023
In Rush National School, we celebrated STEM week from 4th to 10th March. STEM week involves learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We had a jam packed week full of activities for all of our classes such as floating and sinking experiments, static electricity experiments, coding, k’nex and Lego design and build challenges and maths trails.

World Book Day – 2nd March 2023
Pupils of Rush National School celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite characters from books they have read. Can you spot some familiar characters?

Chess Tournament – 1st March 2023
Pupils of 5th and 6th pupils had a great day at Rolestown National School where they had the opportunity to represent Rush National School in a chess tournament organised by Ficheall.

Our local natural environment – 24th February 2023
Today we had singer-songwriter Lea Heart visit our school. She spoke to us about how she used her spare time during lockdown to launch her career. She also performed some of her songs live!

Junior Apprentice – 31st January 2023
One of our 5th class recently undertook a Junior Apprentice project. Their criteria required them to invent a new cereal targeted at children for the brand ‘Kellogg’s’ and design the cereal box!

Triathlon Ireland – 28th November 2022
Today, Ellie Condon, Munster Development Officer for Triathlon Ireland, visited our school. She taught us about the commitment, training habits and eating patterns required to compete at a high sporting level. She answered our questions and we learned a lot! Best of luck to Ellie and the Irish Triathlon Olympic Team who will travel to 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

This week our classes got involved in ‘Big Friend, Little Friend’ activities as well as other exercises that allowed us to practise collaboration and other friendship skills. We learned what it means to be a good friend.

Mata sa Rang – 12th October 2022
Mata sa Rang is in full swing across all of the 1st classes! This comprises of active, hands on lessons based on the topic of maths. The children are really enjoying all of the games they are completing each day and are learning lots in the process.

Nature Walks – 11th October 2022
First class took part in a nature walk around our local woods. They completed a scavenger hunt, finding all of the different trees and leaves in the woods.

Girls’ Gaelic Football – 10th October 2022
The Girl’s School Gaelic Team have began their campaign in the Cumann na mBunscol league and have made great strides so far! They have reached the quarter finals which will be played this Wednesday 12th of October against St. Brigid’s of Castleknock. Best of luck to the girls!

Soil Science – 5th October 2022
Room 4 was busy learning all about soil!! We created our very own wormery for our classroom to learn about the importance of earthworms in our soil. A big thank you to all the children who brought in equipment for our worm hunt and worm world.

Fun Friday – 4th October 2022
The boys and girls in 4th class celebrated their first fun Friday of the school year in their pyjamas! Lot’s of fun was had by all. Prefab 6 was full of lots of sleepy pupils while prefab 5 tested the laws of gravity with their jenga towers!
