Music in Rush National School

All our pupils have been enjoying music lessons this year with our music teacher, Karen. Our senior classes have been learning to play the ukulele, and our younger classes have loved participating in ‘Music in the Classroom’ workshops.

This initiative has been sponsored through funding from Fingal County Council.

School Trip to Ireland v Greece at Tallaght Stadium

On Tuesday, 8th April, 45 girls from the school boarded a bus bound for Tallaght Stadium to watch the Nations League Women’s International between Ireland and Greece. On a glorious evening, we got to see Ireland defeat their opponents 2-1 in front of nearly 6000 spectators. Amber Barrett and Anna Patten were the Ireland goalscorers.

Events like this can be difficult to manage with the big crowds around the stadium but we all stayed together and most importantly, the girls had a great time. Their behaviour was exemplary throughout and were kind and respectful to each other and the people around them and they represented their school really well.

This trip wouldn’t happen without the support of the teachers in the school, Ms. Weldon, Ms. Conaty and Ms. Kelly so a big thank you to them for coming along and giving the girls a great night out together.

Girls Soccer Team – New Sponsorship

A huge well done to the Girls Soccer Team who recently won their match against Holywell Educate Together with the final score of 5-0.

The team looked the part in their new jerseys with a huge thanks to the sponsors of our new jerseys: The Brass Monkey Restaurant.

A great day was had by all.

Room 13 Fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society

On the 27th March, Ms Donnelly’s 1st class in room 13 along with SNA Emma Nixon, ran a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society. The boys and girls sold orange squash and biscuits to all the children in the school. It was an amazing day from start to finish.
They raised a whopping €1162.10 cent, a mind-blowing amount of money and the generosity of everyone is greatly appreciated. Balbriggan Cancer Support collected a giant cheque on Tuesday, and gave the class some well earned biscuits and marshmallows.

Fingal Athletics League

Our Athletics Team had a fantastic day out at the Fingal Cross Country League in Newbridge on Thursday.

Both our Junior and Senior Team showed great team spirit, cheering each other on and we are very proud of all of our athletes.

They have trained and prepared very well.

Thanks to all the teachers, Ms. McCarthy, Ms. Walsh, Ms. Farren, Ms. Chapman and Ms. Grace for their time and encouragement.

Early morning training sessions will continue until the next event in April.

FAI Primary 5’s School Soccer Blitz

The senior boys and girls futsal team took part in a Fingal wide soccer blitz this week and performed incredibly well throughout. The blitz took place in Huntstown Hartstown all weather facility in Dublin 15.

Two boys teams were selected for the blitz on Tuesday 4th March and along with Mr. Byrne and Ms. Walsh, had a fantastic day out. Unfortunately, after a successful group campaign for both teams, they got pitted against each other in the quarter final so ultimately one of the teams advanced and the other bowed out. The game was played with great sportsmanship and this was a pleasure to witness from the side-lines. Rush National School eventually got to the final, the first time that a boys soccer team has reached a final in over a decade, where they beaten by two time winners of the blitz Lusk National School. It was a great day for both teams and players.

The following day, Ms. Weldon and Ms. Conaty brought two teams to the same venue for the girls equivalent and again, the weather played it’s part in everyone having a wonderful day. Unfortunately, neither side were able to make it out of their group but the teachers commented on the standard of the blitz being to an extremely high quality and the girls gave it their all in every game they played.

Big thanks to the teachers who went along on the day and more to come from both football teams in the coming weeks. Watch this space.

Gradam Tomás Mac Giolla Phádraig

Rush National School were invited to enter into a new initiative; Gradam Tom Fitz. This is a project based competition in which schools are asked to complete a digital/hardcopy project on how they promote Gaelic Games and athletics in their school.

The competition is in honour of former Cumann na mBunscol secretary Tom Fitzpatrick. Tom promoted Gaelic Games and athletics for nearly 30 years, but sadly passed away last year ‘Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam dílis’.

A special mention goes to 6th class pupil Jake Lipman who is a whizz with tech. He greatly assisted the video creation. Enjoy watching our entry!

Santa Visits Rush National School

We were delighted to welcome two special guests to the school this week.

In what was an historic event, Big Bird showcased his fine motor skills for the first time in our school and he did not disappoint. Shortly after, Santa arrived on a tractor and spoke to all the children in the yard and visited every classroom in the school handing out goodies to the boys and girls. Thankfully and not surprisingly, every child is on the good list this year!

Here is a video of the event. Sit back, relax and enjoy!!

Merry Christmas from everyone here at Rush National School!!
